vs Gillian Robertson
UFC FIGHT NIGHT 162
Maycee Barber is currently on a 7-fight winning streak with 2 impressive wins in the UFC over JJ Aldrich and Hannah Cifers. Her last bout was about 6 months ago and she did not hold back in the Octagon and on the social media. This fan favorite fighter with a cute face has all the potential to become an UFC superstar like Ronda. Gillian Robertson currently holds an UFC record of 4-1 and none of those fights needed judges to decide the fight. Robertson is a very good grappler and it should be interesting, how well Barber will do on the ground with Robertson.
Maycee Barber is a very dangerous and volume striker with the average of 8 significant strikes landed per minute. Her style of switching stances does make it difficult to predict what she will do next. She finished both fights in the UFC via strikes. Against JJ Aldrich she showed that she has a ton of heart, when she got knocked down in the first round and she was losing for the majority of the fight. She then landed some combinations and earned a TKO victory. Barber is a crafty striker, but it seems she leaves her chin a little bit too high opened for some overhand strikes or strikes straight from the rear hand (like she did against Aldrich). It is very unknown, what she can do on the ground.
Gillian Robertson’s main strength will be her grappling. 3 out of her 4 wins under UFC came by submission. She is not much of a striker as she has never landed more than 70 strikes in UFC fights. According to UFC stats, she only lands a little over 2 significant strikes per minute. However, she averages more than 3,5 takedowns per 15 minutes and she is quite successful as she converts more than half of them. Most of the time she is looking to take the fight to the ground and work from there. Nearly 2/3 of her total strikes were on the ground.
Styles make fights, and this is the perfect example of that sentence. Barber will most probably try to keep it standing, whilst Robertson will most likely want to put the fight to the ground. It will be interesting, if Robertson can take Barber down. If that happens, Robertson will have the edge on the ground and she will look for a submission. The chances of Barber submitting Robertson are very slim. If the fight actually plays out standing up and striking, it is more probable, that Barber would win this fight.
Chances of the fight ending in the first round are not very high. Both Robertson and Barber have got only 2 wins within the very first round. Robertson also looks for takedowns and that could take time if she is fighting a striker with good takedowns defense. Barber could finish this fight very early, but the power just isn’t there yet. The TKO/KO stoppage could arise, but it would be in the later rounds. Barber mostly finished her opponents in the round 2 and 3 by strikes. And if she won´t be taken down by Barber, she has a big chance to win also via judges’ decision.
